What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese massage style that works to balance health by applying stretching and pressure on the muscles to open and improve energy (Ki) in the organ meridian system. The session involves foot reflexology combined with trigger point therapy that works to stimulate the nerve and meridian network to relieve common stresses and pain.
What sorts of things can Shiatsu treat?
Shiatsu is fantastic for supporting general health and as a preventative therapy. Various conditions may respond well to shiatsu treatments. These include physical pain (such as neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, headaches, RSI and sciatica), fatigue, stress, insomnia, sporting injuries, arthritis, digestive issues, menstrual issues and more.
What should I expect?
Your first therapy session is designed to release physical blockages, trauma and chronic inflammation that are held in the body’s structure. Your visceral (organ system) is then balanced and stress is released to improve the emotional state of wellbeing. Your initial session is ideally between 90-120 minutes, depending on your unique needs, but a shorter 60-minute for massage by Renee Zamel is also available at request. A second follow up session is usually recommended approximately 2-3 weeks after the initial treatment. These are shorter in duration and typically last between 60-90 minutes.
Renee is available on Sundays at tonika health. She offers 60, 90 and 120 minutes appointments. You can book an appointment with Renee here or get in touch with her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
